Wireless Charing That Works From A Distance Could Be With Us In 2017

While many manufacturers were quick to adopt wireless charging for their smartphones, but Apple really doesn’t consider the tech to be viable when compared to the traditional method of plugging your device into a wall adapter. After all, you are going to make physical contact with the charging device itself in order to juice things up, hence the tech is not as ‘wireless’ as one would hope. But all of that could change by 2017, as Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is working on wireless charging tech for iOS devices that works from a distance, meaning no physical contact with the charging mat / pod is needed in order to juice up an iPhone or iPad.

Apple Inc. is working with partners in the U.S. and Asia to develop new wireless charging technology that could be deployed on its mobile devices as soon as next year, according to people familiar with the plans.

The report also reveals that Apple is working with partners in Asia and the United States when it comes to this technology. And currently, there are a few obstacles which Apple has to jump through before the technology can be deemed ready for prime time use.

The source also suggests that the newfound wireless charging tech could arrive in the public’s domain by 2017, which means that it could be a part of the iPhone ‘7s,’ if Apple happens to call its smartphone that during the year.

Apple has been always slow to adopt certain technologies, waiting for everything to mature till a certain point. Wireless charging has been something which users have been asking for a long, long time, and while we’re quite sure that the company will eventually deliver, but we’re certain the Cupertino camp will throw in some extra surprises as well, with today’s report adding fuel to a dimly lit fire.

iPhone wirelss charging

Currently, the iPhone (specifically) does not support wireless charging out of the box, but thanks to numerous cases available online, adding wireless charging to your smartphone is a piece of cake. While we would not recommend that you go ahead with these cases, since the iPhone is not meant to be wirelessly charged, but if you want a taste of the tech without dumping your current ecosystem, then you might want to throw in the investment.

We’re quite sure that we’ll hear more from this in the days to come, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, be sure to let us know in the comments section below what you think about this report.
